Cyber Cafe
Cyber Café is a place for teenagers (secondary school age) to chill out with their friends and to have access to computers for the internet and games etc. It is held every Tuesday evening (term time only) at Salford Priors Memorial Hall from 7pm to 8.30pm or on the Playing Field if the weather is fine. Entrance fee is currently 50p and we have a small tuck shop selling crisps, sweets and drinks. We occasionally run trips to places such as Laser Quest, Drayton Manor, bowling & McDonalds, and have evenings where we make our own pizzas, pancakes and ice cream desserts. St Matthew’s Cyber Café
The Cyber Café has been running for over 5 years. We meet every Tuesday during term time in Salford Priors Memorial Hall, in the Misys Room, which is equipped with ten computers. We charge 50p per session, which goes towards some of the treats and trips. Around 20 young people attend on a regular basis. During the summer months we abandon the hall and meet on the playing fields for rounder’s, football or cricket. We have a tuck shop every week and sometimes have pizza, ice cream or pancake nights. Our trips have included Drayton Manor Park, Laser Quest, bowling and McDonalds.
Cyber Café is a drop-in club for young people aged 11+. Some of our regular members are now in fulltime work.
Otis, aged 14, says “Cyber Café is well good cos you can have a laugh with all the people that run it and fun with all your mates.”
Harry says “It’s good because you can go on the Internet.”
Our intention is to make Cyber Café a relaxed place for the young people of the area to meet with friends and to use the computers for games and homework. We purposely don’t offer many structured activities as we feel so much of their time is already planned that sometimes it is good for them to just chill out, relax and be with their friends. We think this is why Cyber Café is still so successful. As leaders it is great to have a fun evening with these young people, they often keep us entertained well after closing time! We say goodbye to Joe (Williams) in September – he has been a Cyber Café leader for the last few months and has been great at getting a game of football going. He leaves for university in Chester and will be missed by us all. Thank you Joe for your mad ways and enthusiasm! The weekly use of the Misys Room is funded by St Matthew’s and in the past the Parish Council have supported some of our trips financially – we are very grateful for this help.
Should anyone wish to join us on a Tuesday evening, then please find us either in the Memorial Hall or on the playing field, especially all those who move up to secondary school in September.
